James Franco In 'Howl' or Who knew Poetry Readings Were This Cool?

So the busiest man in Hollywood the world James Franco portrays beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the new movie Howl. Now I don't know a lot about poetry but I do know Ginsberg and I do know Howl, and if this clip is any indication, this movie is going to be beatnik-tastic. Mr. Franco hits this reading out of the park. Now THIS is poetry damnit!

Surfing Dogs Quoting Point Break

And now something completely different...A bunch of dogs went surfing at Huntington Beach, CA recently and guess what the Internet did? The best thing possible of course, it matched quotes from Point Break to photos of Surfing dogs.

You remember Point Break, Right? You should, Gary Busey is in it.

Two things I love about this clip:

1) Gary Busey cracking up at Calvin and Hobbes.
2) How Gary says "Meatball Sandwich" like it's something no one has ever heard of before.

True Grit Teaser Trailer

Here is the trailer for the new Coen Brothers movie (don't call it a remake) True Grit. Jeff Bridges takes on the role of Rooster Cogburn, which John Wayne originally made famous (he won an Oscar for it, come on people, you really should know this stuff). You might ask, "Should the Coens be remaking an Academy Award winning film?" The answer, according to this trailer, is yes, yes they should.

It's a simple yet engaging trailer for the western that also stars Matt Damon and Josh Brolin. Not to geek out on all of you but I am totally geeking out here. Just a reminder that the last time Jeff Bridges and the Coen Brothers worked together was The Big Lebowski. (Geeeeeeeek!)

True Grit is going to be nothing like The Big Lebowski, but still, I'm going all in on this one and saying it might be one of the best movies of the year. It's coming to a theater near you this December. Watch the trailer below.

My Favorite Monologues: Quint's "I'll kill em for Ten." Speech From Jaws

When people talk about monologues from Jaws they talk about Quint's USS Indianapolis story. But I always think of this scene when Quint offers to catch the shark himself. This speech ranks up there with any other bad-ass introduction in any other movie, ever. They should stop making all those jokes about how awesome Chuck Norris is and start talking about what a bad mofo Quint is. Chuck couldn't last on Quint's boat. Have you ever been down that Internet rabbit hole and found something that you just absolutely fell in love with? Well That happened to me today, I found Soul. Not my soul, I traded that to Milhouse years ago. I'm talking about Barbara Lynn. I dare you to watch these performances and tell me you are not in love with this woman. She's still out there performing. How cool is that? Very cool.

Things That Have Been Getting Around The Web...Of course there's A Panda

Sometimes I rely on help from my friends because really, who has the time to see everything interesting, cool or funny on the interwebs? Not me. I like going out in the real world and mingling with the common people. Common people like me. So these videos come from friends of mine who were like "Stop sleeping in 'till 3pm and look at this!"

Like the main character in these commercials I'm not going to say much. Only that they make commercials way better over there than they do here. I can only hope American marketing people are watching this or I will be forced to send over a panda to their offices. (Thanks KM)

The Internet is more than just porn and cats: Racial Cartography

I'm a big fan of Info-graphics, extremely detailed and creative visuals to help explain and understand concepts, facts or ideas. And I also like it when I find something on the Internet that epitomizes the idealistic original intent of the World Wide Web of freely sharing ideas and information to make the world a better place. Radical Cartography falls into that category.

Racial Cartography is the mapping of cities along their racial and ethnic divides and in this case using colored dots representing the different races and ethnicity. (This blog post isn't about movies. Weird Huh?)

If It Weren't For The Internet: Rabbit Hopping Championships and Hipster Hitler

If it weren't for the Internet I wouldn't have know that the Danish hold a rabbit hopping championship. Now I know and so do you.




The Internets have also spawned a web comic called Hipster Hitler. Rabbits and Hitler, the Internet doesn't get any better than this.

The Never Ending Bill Murray/Peter Venkman/ Lorenzo Music/Garfield Circle

I feel like I already knew about this pop culture connection (you know, deep in my man-child mind) but it is nice that someone put this weirdness on paper with illustrations. It's like looking at an infinity loop. I'm worried that with one false move the universe would collapse on itself. What if they made an Animated movie starring Bill Murray and Lorenzo Music as themselves but Bill was the voice for Lorenzo and vice versa? Then all of a sudden... BAM! the world implodes. Oh wait, Lorenzo Music is dead. That bodes well for the rest of us.

Trailer: I'm Still Here: The Lost Year Of Joaquin Phoenix

Do You remember back in '08 when Joaquin Phoenix dropped out of acting and became a rapper? You know, like a MC Ren or a Too $hort rapping rapper? And then he had that terribly awkward David Letterman interview? Well if you remember all that you should also remember that his brother-in-law Casey Affleck was directing a documentary about it. The first teaser trailer for the film I'm Still Here has landed. All of your questons like, "Is it real or is he just pulling our leg?" will not be answered. More than likely you are going to be even more confused by it. My guess is that I'm Still Here is like Inception but without a plot.

Movie Poster Review: Yogi Bear

A new live action Yogi Bear movie is coming your way, in 3D! Of course it's in 3D, you can't walk down the street without stepping into a pile of 3D. Now, I looked the other way when the (shiver) Marmaduke movie came out earlier this year. I didn't want to acknowledge it's existence. But I felt I couldn't let the Yogi Bear poster pass by without a review.

I am going to totally bypass the whole "What is the relationship between Yogi and Boo Boo?" thing and I'm going to ask this instead. "Why is the guy who brought sexy back the voice of Boo Boo?" Does Justin Timberlake strike you as creative casting? And to add just the right amount of creepiness, Dan Aykroyd is the voice of Yogi. I am assuming he is just following in Bill Murray's footsteps when he did the Garfield movies. I would also like to point out that this movie is live action and that they are going to be interacting with a real life Ranger Smith, played by Ed of Ed fame. If I was the head of a Hollywood studio and was given these facts there is no way in hell I would have green lit this movie.

But how could Hanna-Barbera let this happen, you ask? Well, Hanna and Barbera are both dead, respectfully. So they couldn't do much. Also, come on people, let what happen? All they did was steal Yankee great Yogi Berra's iconic name gave it to a bear that wears a tie and hat and had him talk like Art Carney from the Honeymooners. It's like if I created a cartoon about a talking bird named Albatross Pujols that wears a monocle and talks like Jaleel White playing Steve Urkle. Look who's now a famous animator! That's right, me.

Trailer: The Illusionist (no not the Edward Norton movie)

This is the trailer for L'illusioniste (or The Illusionist) the new film by Sylvain Chomet, who you might remember from his Oscar nominated film the Triplets of Belleville.  I thought this was a visually interesting trailer and I wanted to share it with you all. The Illusionist will be released this December and should make a great holiday movie.  Ah the French, they are so Frenchy.
